Laurence “Lonnie” William Swallow was born on July 23, 1947 in Hot Springs, SD to Carl Swallow and Evelyn Cuny. Lonnie made his journey to the Spirit World on January 28, 2025 at his home in Red Shirt Table, SD.
Lonnie lived in Buffalo Gap till the passing of his father Carl. He then moved to Omaha, NE with his mother and brothers. A few years later, he returned to his roots on Cuny Table. He lived with his Grandma & Grandpa Lawrence & Sadie Cuny on their ranch. He loved the ranching life. In his teens, he rode for the neighboring ranchers. He would be out at the cow camps for weeks at a time. He returned home to Grandpa’s after he got his pay. That’s where he learned to cook watching Grandma Sadie. He also rodeo’d bareback & team roping were the events he entered. Amongst his adventures, he enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting with his family and friends. He would take hunting buddies out horseback sometimes with Bamm Brewer. He passed down his horsemanship and knowledge down to his children. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He loved his nieces & nephews. He had the gift of laughter that would echo throughout the room. He loved to tease and tell jokes and was loved by many. He will be truly missed by all who knew him and he will forever be missed by his children & grandchildren.
Lonnie is survived by his children, Kelly Swallow(Paul Nava), LuAnn Swallow, Katie Swallow(Jae Smith), Shayne Swallow(Brandy), Pat Swallow, Michelle Swallow, and Steven Swallow; brothers, Melvin (Tudy)Swallow, Leo B. Price, Mike (Erica) Price; grandchildren, Joaquim Chipps, Tyrell (TJ) Swallow, Triston Swallow, Andrew Swallow, Ariana Nava, Annalise Nava, Reigns Provost, Angelica Provost, Serenity Provost, Chaz Dodd, Khaleesie Swallow, Bailey Janis, Ryler Smith, Broly Swallow, Oakley Swallow, Ruby, Laddie, Bud Swallow, Jr., Rendon Swallow, Mercedes Swallow, Arial Swallow, Allia Swallow, Patrick Swallow, Jr., Riley, Charlie, Brooke, Gina, Mikayla, Brittany, Stephen, Micheal, Shiree, Billie Jo, Stevie, Syls, and Summer; great grandchildren, Jayshaun, Isabel, David, Brandon, Trayson, Alaysha, Skyler, Dreyton, Adraya, & Shylee; great-great grandchildren, Lacano Swallow, Hazel Fresquez, Aliana, and Graysen; nephews, Carl Swallow, Shawn, Marty, & Loren Swallow; and nieces, Deb DeWolfe-Shedeed and Sarah Price.
Lonnie was preceded in death by father, Carl Swallow; mother, Evelyn Cuny-Price; paternal grandparents, William Swallow & Helen Pourier-Swallow; maternal grandparents, Lawrence Cuny & Sadie Speck-Cuny; son, Bud Daniel Swallow; daughter, Shiloh White; and nephew, Kevin C. Swallow.
