Lois Wounded Horse

Lois Arlene Wounded Horse was born on June 25, 1952 in Hot Springs, SD to Eugene Wounded Horse and Emma Young Dog-Wounded Horse. Lois made her journey to the Spirit World on January 24, 2025 in Phoenix, AZ. 

Lois graduated high school at Pine Ridge (OCS) High School in 1972. She resided in Oglala, South Dakota most of her life. She lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and in Phoenix, Arizona. She joined the American Indian Movement and was adopted by Dennis Banks as his Hunka Sister. She loved all her nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Lois will be missed dearly but not forgotten. 

Lois is survived by her brother, Miles (Cecelia) Wade; nieces & nephews, Michael, Diane, Mark 7 Priscilla Wade all of Albuquerque, NM; special friend, DJ Jiminez; and many other nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Emma & Eugene Wounded Horse; sisters, Delores (Melvin) Blacksmith, and Florence (Aloysius) Romero; nephew, Leon Wounded Horse; grandsons, LouAllen Romero, Johnny Romero, Cunku Jiminez, Nicholas Blacksmith, and Charles Janis, Jr.; granddaughters, Delores Janis and Emma Romero; great grandchildren, Darris Eagle Bull, Harold Dean Lamont, Javon Blacksmith, Sophia Grace Webster, and Ezekial Economy; and hunka brother, Dennis Banks.

Pallbearers will be Nathaniel Blacksmith, Hermus Janis, Casey Romero, Melvin Blacksmith, Michael Jiminez, Franklin Looks Twice, Joseph Looks Twice, and Pollux Blacksmith.

Honorary pallbearers will be the American Indian Movement, All Nieces, Nephews, Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Great Great Grandchildren, and All Friends & Relatives.

Wake Services: One night wake service starting at 3:00 PM, Sunday, February 9th, 2025 at the Makasan Presbyterian Church in Oglala, SD with Traditional Lakota Evening Services starting at 7:00 PM.

Funeral Services: 1:00 PM, Monday, February 10, 2025 at the Makasan Presbyterian Church Hall in Oglala, SD

Traditional Lakota Services: Ivis Long Visitor, Sr.

Burial Services: St. Peterโ€™s Episcopal Cemetery, Oglala, SD
