Lonnie Cadell Bull Bear-Talks was born on May 21, 1962 in Pine Ridge, SD to Aloysius Long Soldier and Arlene Bull Bear.  Lonnie made her journey to the Spirit World on November 9, 2022 at the Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City, SD.

Lonnie touched the hearts of all she met.  She was known for her beading and the star quilts she made, but she also made regalia and traveled all over with the Eagle Mountain Singers.  She was very into her culture and loved pow-wows and pow-wow music.

Called “Loony Toonz” by many, she was always joking and laughing.  She had a very unique sense of humor.  When asked about her children, she would say that she had “5 Dollars and 2 Cents.” (5 daughters and 2 sons.)

Lonnie had a very special bond with each of her children and always talked about her first born, Zetta Verine. She will be missed greatly by all who knew her and loved her, especially her children and grandchildren.

Our mother did not have a Lakota name that we knew of, so her daughter Jovannah came up with one for her that we all think fits her perfectly:  “Wahacanka Luta Win”  (Red Shield Lady).

Lonnie is survived by her daughters Tanya & Freda Martinez, Jovannah Talks, Traci Phelps, and Shaina Phelps-Herman; sons Jamie Talks and Randy Ceferano; sisters LeeAnn “Slu Riv” Bull Bear, Cindy Bull Bear, Maven Bull Bear-Fizer, Katie Shots, and Sonia Shots; brothers Kevin Bull Bear, Deon Shots, and Milo Shots; aunt Linda Bull Bear; uncles Sylvester Long Soldier and Daniel Long Soldier; special friend Louis Whirlwind Horse; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, & nephews.

Lonnie was preceded in death by her grandparents Royal Bull Bear and Eva Good Crow and Clarence and Mabel Long Soldier; parents Aloysius Long Soldier and Arlene Bull Bear; daughter Zetta Martinez; granddaughter Raelee Martinez; sisters Belinda Mesteth and Alfred “Joyce” Molina; aunt Verine Clifford; uncles Adolph Bull Bear, Ray Vance Bull Bear, Pete Bull Bear, and Timothy Bull Bear; and numerous nieces, & nephews.

Pallbearers will be Laddimer Clifford, Jr., Tyler Clifford, Terry Bull Bear, Jamie Mesteth, Leland Talks, and Waylon Reddy.

Honorary pallbearers will be All Friends & Relatives.
