“As The Mammoth Site marks its 50th anniversary, it’s not just a celebration of the past but a testament to the ongoing journey of discovery,” said Presston Gabel, COO/Business Manager. “From a potential housing development to a world-renowned paleontological dig site and museum, we remember our humble beginnings as we look to the future and continue educating the general public about the last Ice Age. Please celebrate with us.”

The Mammoth Site was discovered in June 1974, when land developer Phil Anderson’s housing development project was stopped by the discovery of a mammoth tusk. Over the next fifty years, over 60 mammoths (58 Columbian and three woolly) and 87 other late Ice Age species have been discovered, making The Mammoth Site the world’s largest mammoth research facility.
