Man Killed In Shootout With Casper Police

Loading

Two Casper police officers shot and killed a man about 2:00 Friday morning after he’d fired at them at McKenzie Lake Park.

Names have not been released. The two officers were not injured and have been placed on administrative leave while the incident is being investigated as required by Casper policy.

Casper police say the officers were on patrol in the park area when they found a vehicle parked near the lake.

They made contact with a man, but while they were talking with him he fled on foot. As the officers were chasing him, the man pulled out a gun and fired at them. Both officers returned fire and fatally wounded the gunman.

The man was taken by ambulance to the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, but was later pronounced dead.
