Margery E (Pinkerton) Stoner was born on October 20, 1921, in Chadron. She was escorted to her Heavenly Home by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on November 11, 2022.  Margery had just celebrated her 101st birthday with all her precious family.

Margery was the daughter of George and Minnie Pinkerton. She was one of six children who participated in their dairy farm and sold ice to the community in the summer.

Her father brought from Chicago the first Ayrshire cattle, a breed that was unique in this area.  Margery’s father passed away when she was 8 years old, but the family kept the farm in tip-top shape.

She was an employee of the Dawes County Treasurer’s office until her marriage to Dale Stoner and a lifetime resident of Dawes County except when Dale was in the Army.

The couple lived in Colorado Springs, CO, when Dale was stationed at Fort Carson and in Anchorage, AL, for 18 months when Dale was deployed to Fort Richardson.

Their only daughter, Dayle, was born there. Margery, Dale, and Dayle returned stateside when Dayle was 9 months old and built a home 1-1/2 miles east of Chadron.

In 1960. Margery returned to the treasurer’s office as Deputy Treasurer and went on to be elected treasurer 4 times before retiring.  During her term she was an officer of the State Treasurer serving as Vice President and then continuing to be earning Presidency.

Margery was devoted to her family and enjoyed summers spent with her daughter, who was devoted to her horse as was her dad. They spend many hours together as Dayle participated in Little Britches and high school rodeos.

After Margery retired, she volunteered at the Museum of the Fur Trade for 20 years.  In 1998, she was awarded the museum’s Distinguished Service Award. She was a member of the American Legion and Legion Auxiliary for 75 years, and was also a devoted Nebraska Cornhusker Fan.

Throughout her whole life, Margery thanked the Lord every day for a loving God and a loving family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; devoted husband of 56 years Dale; brothers Harry Pinkerton (Loretta) and George Pinkerton (Freida); sisters Norma Pinkerton, Francis Lindeken (Bill), Opal Heinzle (Dude); and nieces Betty and Linda.

Margery is survived by her daughter Dayle (Ron) Thiessen; granddaughter Dannalee O’Bryan (Shawn) Nordhagen, grandson, Spencer O’Bryan (Peggy) O’Bryan; great-grandchildren Matthew (Sadie), Ashlan (Mark), Jaden, Skyler, Parker and Preston and great-great-grandchildren Jacklyn, Maverick and Bennett.

Margery is also survived by nephews Don Pinkerton, Gary Heinzle (Pat), and Dennis Pinkerton (Vi).
