Nebraska Department of Transportation

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) will host the 2026 Snowplow Roadeo in Kearney on Wednesday, May 27. The annual competition will take place at the Nebraska Safety Center Driving Range, where snowplow operators from across the state will compete in a series of challenges and put their skills to the test.

The competition will consist of a pre-trip inspection where teams of snowplow operators must inspect their snowplow for issues, complete a written test, and test their skills by navigating obstacle courses in their plows.

Prior to the statewide competition, local competitions were held in each of NDOT’s eight geographical districts. The top two teams from each district advanced to the state competition where they’ll compete for the chance to advance to the national level. The 2026 national competition, held in conjunction with the APWA Western Snow and Ice Conference, will be held from Sept. 30-Oct. 2 in Loveland, Colo.

In addition to friendly competition, the annual snowplow roadeo allows snowplow operators to learn from one another, while also demonstrating how they keep themselves and drivers safe during the winter months.
