Melanie Ann “Gigi” Barndt was born December 27, 1973, in Beaverlodge, Alberta, Canada. She passed away unexpectedly on May 25, 2023.

Melanie grew up in Wyoming until 8th grade, when her dad was transferred to Texas with his work at Holly Sugar. She spent the next 5 years in Hereford, TX, then worked over several years as a dispatcher for an answering service, a homemaker, waitress, and bus driver transporting children to both public and private school.

Melanie raised her own daughters in Texas, then moved to Wyoming in 2015. Her greatest accomplishment was becoming a Correctional Officer for the Wyoming Women’s Center. She worked at WWC for 7.5 years, rising to the rank of Corporal.

Family was very important to her. She loved her girls and John with all of her being and gave her love and time to her grandsons.

Melanie had a very kind and compassionate heart and put the interests of others ahead of her own.  She could make anyone smile and loved animals.

Melanie was funny and entertaining and enjoyed many genres of music. She also enjoyed traveling to visit Aleshia at different locations while she was serving in the Air Force. Melanie was very bright and excelled in academics and assignments.

She is survived by her daughters Brittany (John) of Lusk, and Aleshia of San Antonio, TX; her parents Ralph and Sharon Barndt of Lusk; siblings Lynnita (Craig) Jessen of Richardson, TX; Layne (Kim) Barndt of Post Falls, ID; Lori (Abe) Badeen of Bentonville, AR; and Lisa (JD) Williams of Lusk; and grandchildren Jaden, Levi and Zeek of Lusk.

She is also loved and remembered by many nieces and nephews, friends, and coworkers.
