Memorial Day Services Being Held In Several Area Communities


     Memorial Day services will be held this morning at several area cemeteries with the first 2 in Chadron – 9:00 at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery and 9:30 at the Greenwood Cemetery. 

       Services at the Bethel Cemetery in Whitney are at 10:15 while the Chadron American Legion is hosting a lunch from 11:30-1:00. 

       The Hay Springs VFW is holding a service at the Hay Springs Cemetery at 10:00. The American Legion Hall is hosting a carry-in after the service with meat and rolls provided. 

    The Michael J Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home in Hot Springs is hosting a Memorial Day Ceremony at 10:00 with South Dakota Senate Majority Leader Casey Crabtree the keynote speaker

     The Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Alliance hosts its annual Memorial Day program this afternoon at 1:00.

      Major General Craig Strong, Adjutant General of the Nebraska National Guard, will be the keynote speaker, and Cemetery Manager Jim Goodwin will recognize the service members who are interred at NVCA. 

     Patriotic music will be performed by the St John’s Brass, and as an homage to fallen heroes, the Alliance American Legion Post 7 will conduct a rifle salute and play “Taps.”

     Limited seating is available, but everyone is welcome – and encouraged – to bring lawn chairs.
