Mental Health Awareness Walk In Chadron To Light C-Hill

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and the Chadron community is marking the occasion with a Walk for Mental Health Awareness tonight that will include lighting C-Hill.

Spokesman Terry Haynes says the walk is a chance for local residents to show their support for mental health programs and to encourage everyone to take advantage of those programs for help when they are needed.

C-Hill will be lit green, the color of mental health awareness, and Haynes encourages everyone to wear a green ribbon to show support.

Haynes says talking about mental health and getting help are no longer the taboo subjects they once were. She thinks that’s especially important now because of the mental health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on many people.

Haynes says Chadron and the Northern Panhandle are blessed by having a much larger number of mental health professionals per capita than is normal.

While they can be contacted directly, she suggests that someone looking for help first contact Western Community Health Resources for help in picking the best match.

The theme of Mental Health Awareness Month this year is You Are Not Alone.
