Mustangs Earn First State Tournament Appearance

Loading

The Gordon-Rushville boys are headed to the state tournament for the first time in school history after they defeated Elmwood-Murdock 40-26 in the C2-8 district championship game on Tuesday night.

The Mustangs extended a 7-point half time lead out to 12 in the 3rd quarter, but the Knights trimmed it down to 4 in the 4th quarter before gritty defense and free throws put the game away.

Gordon hadn’t been to the state tournament since 1954 and Rushville’s last appearance was 1960.

Unofficially, Gordon-Rushville will be the #8 seed when the tournament gets underway next week.

The Sidney boys are off to the C1 state tourney after they held off Aurora 34-31 in the C1-6 championship.

Scottsbluff rolled over South Sioux City 57-41 in the B-3 final and punched their ticket.

Gering and Leyton were losers in district finals games as Gering fell to Elkhorn 57-35 and Leyton slipped up against Mead 44-33.
