Myrtie Jane (Garneaux) Black Bear was born on September 30, 1954 in Scottsbluff, NE to Daniel and Annie (Peneaux) Garneaux.ย  Myrtie made her journey to the Spirit World on December 1, 2024 at the Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City, SD.ย 

Myrtie is survived by her spouse, Artie Black Bear; children, Alijah Black Bear, William Black Bear, and Myrtieann Penelope Black Bear; stepchildren, LaVita Little Spotted Horse and AJ Black Bear; brother, Mervin D. Garneaux; grandchildren, Leticia, Jazz, Michael, Donna, Yesenia, Jr., and Kassidy; and great grandson, Javon.

Myrtie was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel S. Garneaux and Annie L. (Peneaux) Garneaux; sisters, Lorraine M. (Garneaux) Moreno, Pearl J. (Garneaux) Crow, Barbara A. Garneaux, and Abigail M. (Garneaux) Little Bear; brothers, Edward J. Garneaux, William J. Garneaux, and Martin L. Garneaux; paternal grandfather, Edward Garneaux; and maternal grandmother, Sally (Larvie) Bear Heels.  

Pallbearers will be Dave Smith, Bryan Davis, David Winters, CJ Two Bulls, Alijah Black Bear, and William Black Bear.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Garneaux Family, Ortega Family, Larvie Family, Black Bear Family, Makes Room For Him Family, Hawks Family, Auntie Patty Clown Horse & Family, and All Friends & Relatives.

Visitation Services: Visitation services will be held from 9:00 AM โ€“ 9:00 PM, Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at the Mother Butler Center in Rapid City, SD

Funeral Services: 3:00 PM, Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at the St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in Rapid City, SD

Officiating: Fr. Ed Witt, S.J.ย 

Traditional Lakota Services: Wade Broken Nose

Burial Services: Cremation to follow services with burial to follow at a later date.
