The South Dakota Highway Patrol has released the names of the people in two of the state’s 3 fatal traffic accidents over the weekend.
80-year old David Burris of Rapid City was killed Friday afternoon when his SUV suddenly veered to the right while leaving Interstate 90 at the Box Elder Exit 64. The SUV went through a ditch and ended up in a small creek.
Burris died at Monument Health Hospital Rapid City. His 75-year old wife Karolene, sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the same hospital.
45-year old truck driver MIchael Patton of Andover was also killed Friday afternoon, but on a minimum maintenance road in the extreme northeast part of the state about 5 miles northeast of Langford.
Patton was standing by the trailer of his semi when the boom of an agricultural sprayer driven by 21-year old Anna Huggett of Long Prairie, MN, struck first the trailer and then him. Patton was rushed to the hospital, but died en route. Huggett was unhurt.
