Nebraska state statute requires updates to Nebraska College and Career Ready content standards every seven years. Current standards for Fine Arts, Physical Education, Social Studies, and World Languages were adopted by the Nebraska State Board of Education in 2014, 2016, 2019, and 2019, respectively. The information collected will be used as part of the standards review and revision process.
Nebraska educators from pre-kindergarten to postsecondary, including public and non-public schools, will help develop drafts of the proposed standards for each content area. Once completed, the standards will create the framework for Arts Education, Physical Education, Social Studies, and World Language education in Nebraska. Completion is expected in the fall of 2026.
Nebraska content area standards reflect the knowledge and skills students are expected to learn in a given content area. By setting clear benchmarks for learning, content area standards provide guidance to teachers as they develop learning experiences for students. Standards do not prescribe particular curriculum, lessons, teaching techniques, or activities. Decisions about curriculum and instruction are made locally by individual school districts and classroom teachers.
