Two former Nebraska players were selected in the 2024 Major League Baseball draft. Josh Caron was selected in the fourth round by the Seattle Mariners and then unexpectedly Brett Sears went to the Atlanta Braves,
Caron was selected with the 121st pick of the draft. The junior catcher for Nebraska became the highest Nebraska catcher selected since 1985, the 10th Husker selected by the Mariners, and the seventh fourth round draft pick out of Nebraska.
Caron hitt .308 with 15 doubles, 16 home runs, 65 RBI and a triple for Nebraska this year. He was one of two catchers nationally to hit over .300 on the season. He was also the 2024 Big Ten Tournament Most Outstanding Player.
Sears was taken with the 221 overall pick in the draft by the Braves. The fourth, seventh round pick in the history of Nebraska became the fifth Nebraska pitcher to be selected in the draft during the Will Bolt era.
Sears finished with a 9-1 record, a 2.16 ERA with 101 strikeouts in 104 innings thrown for Nebraska this season. He was named Big Ten pitcher of the year and an All-American this past season.
