Nebraska Democratic Party Release

The Nebraska Democratic Party Stonewall Democrats Chair Michael Marcheck issues the following statement regarding the Trump Administrationโ€™s executive orders to remove historical and relevant references to the LGBTQ community on federal websites:

โ€œIn the early hours of June 28th, 1969, after consistent police harassment and an unplanned raid, a segment of New York Cityโ€™s queer community fought back to reclaim their space. The riots at the Stonewall Inn turned into a larger movement asserting our equality and basic right to human dignity. Many of the vanguards, caretakers, and other leaders that came out of those riots were trans women.

On Thursday of last week, the official National Parks page for the Stonewall Inn Monument removed all references to the transgender and queer members of our community.  A move that capped off a series of feeble executive orders by the Trump Administration aimed at erasing us. The Nebraska Stonewall Democrats want to make it very clear: the Nazis tried to exterminate us and there are still queer people in Germany. Neither executive orders nor website alterations will erase us if concentration camps cannot.โ€
