As the next step in the merger process, the Nebraska Public Service Commission today approved the joint application filed by Black Hills Corporation and NorthWestern Energy Group, Inc, subject to the terms of stipulated settlement agreements.

“We believe this merger will create a stronger, more resilient company, better positioned to safely, reliably and cost-effectively meet customers’ evolving energy needs,” said Black Hills Energy CEO and President Linn Evans. “By joining forces, we will have the added scale to make us a financially stronger, more resilient utility better equipped to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing energy landscape.”

“What will not change is our commitment to customers, community partnership and the employees who make reliable energy service possible every day,” said Evans. “In Nebraska, the many communities who know and trust Black Hills Energy and NorthWestern Energy today will continue to receive reliable, safe energy service at affordable rates by the same experienced crews. We are committed to the communities we are privileged to serve.”

The merger announced in August 2025 is expected to close later this year, subject to additional approvals from Public Service Commissions in Montana and South Dakota as well as the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
