Nebraska’s preliminary unemployment rate 2-tenths of a point in March to a seasonally-adjusted 2.1%.Â
    It’s the second straight month the jobless rate has fallen 2-10ths of a point and while it is a tenth of a point higher than last year, it’s also the second-lowest rate in the country and more than a point under the national jobless rate of 3.5% for MarchÂ
The unemployment rate for Omaha, the state’s largest job market, was 2.2%, an improvement of 3-10ths of a point for both the month and year, while Lincoln came in at 1.9%, down a tenth from February and 2-10ths from a year ago.
Beatrice posted a jobless rate of 2.1% with the Scottsbluff Micropolitan Statistical Area at 3.6%, both falling a tenth of a point for the month and year.
The state rate is adjusted for seasonal factors while local rates are not, making comparisons between them meaningless.
State Labor Commissioner John Albin says there was lots of good news in the jobs report, too, with May seeing an increase of nearly 3,000 employed workers and a drop of over 2,000 in workers looking for jobs.
Nonfarm employment, which counts filled jobs, increased 7,053 from February to reach 1,038,301 – up 25,407 from a year ago.
The private industry sectors with the most jobs filled since February were Leisure and hospitality (up 1,589), and Mining and Construction (up 1,313).
They also added the most since last March with Leisure and hospitality up 5,752 while Mining and Construction added 4,762. Private Education and Health Services were right behind with 4,495 more jobs than last year. .
