Nebraska Unemployment Up A Tenth In August At 2.1%; Still 3rd-Lowest In The Country

      Nebraska’s preliminary unemployment rate in August rose a tenth of a point to 2.1%. That’s still 4-10ths of a point lower than last year and the 3rd-lowest rate in the country. The national jobless rate in August 2as 3.7%

      Nebraska Labor Commissioner John Albin says over a million Nebraskans have been employed every month since August 2020 with another 16,000 getting jobs in the past 12 months.

        Nonfarm employment, a count of filled jobs, dropped by 3,238 jobs in August but at  1,029,051 was still up 16,336 from a year ago..  

      Private industry sectors with the most growth month to month were financial activities (up 877), mining and construction (up 718), and information (up 385).  

      Sectors with the most growth year to year were professional and business services (up 3,387), leisure and hospitality (up 3,162), and education and health services (up 3,142).
