The Nebraska Cornhuskers opened the season with a dominating 3-1 (25-21,22-25,25-15, 25-20) win over the ninth ranked Kentucky Wildcats.
It was a block party in Louisville, Kentucky as Nebraska had 18 blocks on the night, the most since 2018.
Nebraska came out of the gate winning the first set 25-21. The Huskers hit .353 with 16 kills to go up 1-0 in the match. The second set looked like Nebraska was still shaking off rust from the offseason as they hit .054 with a match high seven errors. Kentucky ended up winning the second set 25-22 to even up the match at one set a piece.
The third set Nebraska was able to figure things out, forcing the Wildcats to hit .000 with 11 kills and 11 errors. The Cornhuskers ran away with the set winning 25-15 to lead the match 2-1.
The fourth and final set of the match Nebraska finished the win off 25-20. The Cornhuskers hit .360 on 13 kills with four errors in 25 attempts to win the match 3-1.
Rebekah Allick led the team with 11 kills on 15 attempts, Merritt Beason hit .114 with 11 kills on 35 attempts.
Next up for Nebraska is the Ameritas Players Challenge Friday and Saturday. The Cornhuskers will host Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Friday with the match scheduled for 6 mountain time, then will matchup with TCU on Saturday with first serve set for just after 6:30 mountain time.
