The Chadron City Council meets in something of a doubleheader that occurs every two years a month after the November elections.
The current council members will open the meeting at 6:00 and act on a few items, including creation of a Clean Energy Assessment District which opens financing options to developers without impacting city funds, taxes, or operations.
Then the 4 council members elected in November will receive the oath of office and take their seats. Mayor Mark Werner leaves after 2 terms and Vice-Mayor Cheryl Welch after one term, replaced by Mark Graves and Shane Shepherd.
Incumbent George Klein, appointed earlier this to serve out the remainder of the year following the resignation of Keith Crofutt, was elected to a 4-year term while incumbent Miles Bannan, who decided not to run for re-election, eventually filed for and won the remaining 2 years of Crofutt’s term.
Once the 4 newly-elected members take their places, they will elect a president who will serve as mayor and a vice-president who will be the vice-mayor, both for the next two years.
Their portion of the agenda is also light, but includes a resolution approving a new Memorandum of Agreement with the VA for compensated work therapy for general labor services.
