Young livestock producers from across Nebraska and adjoining states are in Mitchell this weekend for the 4th annual New Year’s Beef Bash, sponsored by the Scotts Bluff County Ag Society at the Vistabeam Events Center at the Scotts Bluff County Fairgrounds.
Check-in and showmanship competition headline today’s schedule with the Market Show tomorrow and the Breeding Show on Sunday with 300 or more head expected. There are also food and industry vendors
Ag Society Board member Chip Huckfeldt says the Beef Bash is a chance for the participants to jump-start getting their cattle projects ready for next year’s competition.
Huckfeldt says many of the animals being shown this weekend were also shown this past summer at county fairs – some even at the state fair – as young calves.
They’re now about twice the size they were then and will be shown at next year’s fairs as feeder cattle.
