Two Pine Ridge Reservation men charged in unrelated homicides on the reservation in the past 3 weeks both made appearances in U-S District Court in Rapid City on Tuesday.
59-year-old Eugene High Hawk of Wounded Knee pled Not Guilty to single counts of 1st-degree murder, assault resulting in serious bodily injury, and assault with a dangerous weapon in the June 24 beating death near Wounded Knee of 18-year old Dominick Jealous of Him.
High Hawk, also known as Acorn, is being held without bail, but has a detention hearing scheduled for next Monday. Assistant U-S Attorney Kelsey Blair says he should remain in custody until trial because he’s a “danger to the community.”
High Hawk’s son, 25-year old Spencer High Hawk, is also charged with 1st-degree murder in Jealous Of Him’s death. The younger High Hawk is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday.
Recently unsealed court documents show investigators believe the attack on Jealous of Him was premeditated.
30-year-old Dre Red Feather pled Not Guilty to 2nd-degree murder in the stabbing death last Friday of 33-year-old Jered Kills Enemy At Night. He also faces a charge of violating his supervised release for a 2018 weapons conviction.
Red Feather remains in custody with his next court appearance scheduled for later this month on the 25th. The judge will evaluate his eligibility for release at that time.
Investigators say Red Feather fatally stabbed Kills Enemy At Night in the chest and back, but few details have been released.
