Janessa Carley of Dalton is the Chadron State College Project Strive/TRiO Student of the Month for November.

Project Strive/TRiO is an academic enrichment program committed to help students succeed. Project Strive also focuses on career exploration, cultural and social enrichment and self-awareness.

Carley is a Business Administration major scheduled to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in May. She plans to immediately begin working toward an MBA with a focus on accounting, also at CSC, then become a CPA.

Carley says she chose Chadron State because she loves the feeling of being in a small town and in a smaller school where her professors will know her on a personal level the same way her high school teachers did.

Carley is a member of Xi Delta Zeta, the Rural Business Leadership Initiative, Student Alumni Council, the CSC Wind Symphony, and The Big Event Staff. She says being active in campus clubs is a priority because she believes being a part of the community and helping others is important.

When not in class or participating in an activity on campus, she fills her free time with crocheting and playing the clarinet. She learned the clarinet in high school and found her passion for crocheting at a young age after a cousin taught her.
