Nebraska Health and Human Services says an elderly south-central Nebraska woman who had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 has died of the disease.
The woman was listed as being in her 80s and having underlying health conditions.
Officials with Kearney-based Two Rivers Health District said the woman was recently hospitalized for more than two weeks well after receiving two doses of the Pfizer vaccine.
The news comes as health officials point to a COVID-19 outbreak at a Kearney nursing home of mostly vaccinated residents as a success story because only 2 of 23 residents who tested positive showed any symptoms and those symptoms cleared quickly.
