Nila Hoffman was born the daughter of Theodore and Mary Lambert on March 19, 1940, in Swan Pond near Barbourville, KY. A loving wife and mother, she passed away on Monday, Dec 26, 2022, from complications of pneumonia.
Nila was raised in Swan Pond. After graduating high school, she married Monte Hofmann of Alliance. NE, and together they raised two children.
In the early years, the family made many relocations around the country based on Monte’s work, but eventually settled in western Nebraska which was Monte’s childhood home.
Nila was best known for her sweet nature and gentle humor. She devoted her life to caring for others. As the eldest of 9 children, she started out in life caring for her younger siblings. As a wife and mother, she cared for her husband and two children.
In her career as a nurse, she cared for the patients in her charge. In Monte’s declining years she devoted herself exclusively to his care as he battled a progressive, terminal lung disease. She also volunteered at the Chadron Christian Church.
In her later years, the care she had so freely given to others was repaid to her. She was cared for by the wonderful members of her church, by the exceptional staff of Prairie Pines Lodge in Chadron, NE, the excellent staff of Pioneer Manor in Hay Springs, NE, and by her children.
While we are saddened by her departure from our lives here on earth, we are truly joyous in the knowledge that she is free from suffering and reunited with her husband and many other family and friends who have passed before her.
Nila was preceded in death by her husband Monte, brother Don, and sisters Phyllis and Connie,
She is survived by her two children Mark (Ina) Hofmann of Alliance; and Shari Hofmann of Plano, TX; sisters Linda, Lana, Teresa, and Tammy, and brother Russell.
Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements for Nila Hofmann.
She was one of the sweetest ladies I have ever known.
