No Significant Damage From Fire In Unoccupied Warehouse At Hot Springs VA

Loading

The VA says a fire Tuesday night about 10:00 damaged an unoccupied warehouse on the Hot Springs VA Medical Center grounds, but that the fire-suppression sprinklers extinguished the blaze with no structural damage.

The fire did produce heavy smoke from smoldering boxes stored in the dock area of the warehouse.

There were no injuries reported, no veterans or staff were in the affected building, and no veterans were evacuated. The fire will not affect patient care and no health services have been disrupted due to the fire.

A alarm in the warehouse alerted VA Fire and Police about 10:00 pm. They responded immediately and the first fire crews to enter the building and discovered the sprinklers had out the fire out.

The Hot Springs Fire Department responded to a mutual aid call with an engine, ladder truck, and about 10 firefighters to assist the VA department in salvage and overhaul operations of the affected area.

A thorough investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing, but the VA says the initial assessment has ruled out arson or foul play.
