South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem says she recently underwent successful back surgery to treat a problem with her spine.Â
The 50-year-old Republican and former congresswoman had been treated for several weeks in South Dakota before traveling to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for the surgery on an acute condition impacting her lumbar spine.
Noem, who is in the midst of a reelection campaign, says recovery from the surgery will limit her activity, including the amount of travel she can do and the length of time she can spend standing. She is considered a potential 2024 White House contender.
