North Platte NRD GM John Berge New State FSA Director

North Platte NRD general manager and CEO John Berge has been named by President Biden as Nebraska executive director of the USDA Farm Service Agency.  Berge has headed the NRD since 2014.

In his new post, he will oversee FSA programs for Nebraska ag producers including commodity, conservation, credit, and disaster assistance programs intended to ensure a safe, affordable, abundant, and nutritious food, fiber, and fuel supply for consumers.

It’s actually the second time around as FSA state director for Berge; he held the post for the final year of the Clinton administration.

He also served at USDA headquarters in Washington in the Obama administration as FSA deputy administrator, executive director of the National Food and Agricultural Council, acting assistant secretary for congressional relations, and White House liaison.

Berge also spent 5 years as the district director for then-US Senator Ben Nelson and was executive director of the Western Nebraska Community College Foundation between working for Nelson and the Obama administration.
