NSP Apologizes For Sending Inadvertent Text Alarm

Loading

The Nebraska State Patrol is apologizing for sending an emergency test alert to cell phones around the state Tuesday night that triggered a loud, jarring alarm and woke up people who had gone to bed.

The alert shortly after 10 p.m. MT came as the agency was conducting a required monthly test of the state’s Emergency Alert System, done on the third Tuesday of every month.

The tests are supposed to activate the system only on broadcast media, but the state’s Wireless Emergency Alert system was inadvertently activated as well – sending out the cell phone alert statewide.

The mistake drew a lot of complaints on social media and the apology from the State Patrol.
