Today is Free Fishing and Park Entry Day for all Nebraska Game and Parks lands while South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks holds its Open House and Free Fishing Weekend today and tomorrow. .
In both states, park entry permits are waived and anglers can fish without a permit but must observe all other fishing requirements. Camping, lodging, and all other user fees such as admission to museums also still apply.
Family-friendly activities are scheduled at a number of locations in Nebraska including Fort Robinson State Park, which has a Kids’ Fishing Derby for ages 12-and-under from 9-11:00 at Grable Ponds.
Fort Rob also offers a hamburger, salad and drink BBQ from 11-1:00. on the west lawn of the lodge. The cost of the BBQ is $11 for adults and $5.50 for kids 12 and under.
Chadron State Park is hosting the 2nd Annual Northwest Nebraska Volksmarch with options of a 5K or a 10K route. There is a $3 fee to participate, but it’s mainly to cover insurance.
Participants can register at the Group Cabin Meeting Room and start anytime from 8-11:00, but they must finish by 1:30 to be counted as officially completing the Volksmarch.
