Former long-time Chadron State assistant and head football coach Bill O’Boyle is on the move again, leaving Colorado and Deon Sanders after 1 season to follow Sean Lewis to San Diego State.
Lewis was named last week as the successor to Brady Hoke, who reportedly chose retirement over firing after the Aztecs went 4-8 and saw both a 12-year bowl game streak end and fan interest in the program wane.
A year ago, Lewis gave up the head coaching job at Kent State to be part of Coach Prime’s first staff and brought O’Boyle, his offensive line coach the previous 5 years, with him for the same position.
Although the Colorado offense put up great numbers under Lewis, when the Buffs began losing Sanders gave play-calling responsibilities to Pat Shurmer and Colorado didn’t win again.
Lewis accepted the San Diego State job last Wednesday and O’Boyle apparently resigned quickly, although no announcement was made. Multiple reports say he began recruiting almost immediately, important since 3 starting o-lineman have entered the transfer portal – which opened Monday.
