Residents of Northwest Nebraska have been treated this week to a visit by some 30-to-40 classic farm tractors from a South Dakota-bases group.
The Tri-State Old Iron Club of Yankton was formed in 2005 and has been making trips for about 100 years.
President Jerome Mueller says the Old Iron Club has about 200 members, mostly in the Tri-State region of Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota but with some from around the country.
Mueller says coming to Northwest Nebraska for a trip was the idea of member Dan Thoene, who spent 2 weeks last summer as a volunteer campground host at CHadron State Park and was able to explore the region.
The Old Iron Club trips are limited to a maximum of 40 tractors, and the Chadron visit attracted close to that number.
They arrived Monday, then drove their tractors out to Chadron State Park on Tuesday. Wednesday saw them visit both the Dawes County Historical Museum and the Museum of the Fur Trade.
