Firefighter agencies in various areas of the panhandle met up in Alliance to participate in a unique, insightful training on gas related emergencies. Personnel from Chadron, Alliance, Bayard among others were given an opportunity to experience four different simulated situations involving natural gas.
“These trainings are especially important for volunteers. Many times, scene mitigation for firefighters is not as simple as pulling hose out and spraying water on it. Lots of firefighting requires having a thought process, slowing down, and choosing the most effective course of action.” said Chadron Firefighter Jared Fernau. “Slowing down and considering the options you have is imperative in trainings like this.”
The crews were active at the Alliance Airport into the late hours of Thursday night fighting live fires for the training, one of which involved a police cruiser car.
