Paperwork Progressing For Bands On Bordeaux And Fur Trade Days

All the paperwork with the city is now complete for two of next month’s big events in Chadron – Bands on Bordeaux and Fur Trade Days.

The City Council Monday night approved an agreement again allowing the Chamber of Commerce to use Railroad Park and 1st Street between Main and Bordeaux for Bands on Bordeaux, and approved the Chamber’s Special Designated liquor licenses for it.

This is the third year Bands on Bordeaux had been at Railroad Park and Chamber Executive Director Gabby Michna told the council the layout will be very similar to last year with a slight shift in location for the Chamber’s alcohol sales booth.

Last year was the first year the concerts were held without double fencing for security and both Michna and Police Chief Rick Hickstein said the single-fence layout worked just as well.

Michna said the change saved a lot of time and energy while Chief Hickstein praised the public for their cooperation in following alcohol rules at both Bands on Bordeaux and Fur Trade Days, where the downtown area becomes a community beer garden.

The council also approved 2 sets of designated licenses for downtown bars for Fur Trade Days, one set for Thursday July 13 and one for Friday and Saturday.

The Thursday night permits informally take over after the end of the Bands on Bordeaux Concert, moving the party around the corner and down a block to center at 2nd and Main.

The other set of permits are for the community beer garden and the Fur Trade Days street dances. Chief Hickstein told the council there have been no problems since the creation of the downtown entertainment zone that allows individuals to have alcohol on the street in specially designated glasses.

The city council also approved permits for the Fur Trade Days Fireworks Show, scheduled for 10:00 on Friday night with a weather fall-back date of Saturday. The display will be lit on city property on East Niobrara and will last about 10-minutes with 2” and 3” shells detonating 250-to-300 feet in the air.
