Patricia โPatโ (Donovan) Manning was born October 20th, 1938 to Willard and Hildegarde Donovan in Alliance, Nebraska. She was the third of five children and graduated from Alliance High School.
After graduating, she worked as a switchboard operator for the telephone company as well as a clerk for a Thieleโs Drugstore until she met her husband, John Manning. Pat and John were married on October 2, 1962 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Alliance, Nebraska. Pat was proud to be a rancherโs wife and she and John ranched near Belmont before moving to the home place on the Niobrara River in Sioux County.
Although John was known for being a hard worker, it was never lost on anyone that Mom cooked, cleaned and did laundry for five or more hired hands all the while changing diapers and managing her children.
Pat served her community as a member of the Harrison School Board as well as a parish council member for Saint Bridget Catholic Church in Hemingford. She enjoyed being a member of a bowling league as well as playing golf.
If you knew Pat, you knew she was a sports fan and whether it was cheering the Nebraska Cornhuskers football or volleyball teams, the Denver Nuggets, Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors or her favorite sports team, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, she never missed a game and you never called during a game or she would hang up.
Pat also enjoyed attending concerts at the Buffalo Chip. She listened to rock music including Kid Rock, AC DC, Nirvana, and Bon Jovi. She played it loud in her car, especially when picking up her grandkids, Johnny and Anna, from school. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy.
Pat enjoyed visiting and telling stories with friends and family over a cup of coffee, a can of Coca Cola or a Bud Light on ice. She always enjoyed a good time. Pat and John moved off the ranch to Hemingford in their later years and everyone knew Pat for her outgoing and straight to the point personality.
Pat loved being outside in the spring and summer. She really enjoyed sitting on her deck and working in the yard, laying on the grass tending to her flowers. Many neighbors wondered if she was okay when they saw this.
Pat is survived by children, Tracy (Paul) Manning-Egge of Keystone, SD, T.J. Manning of Marsland, NE, Erin Manning of Denver, CO, and Paige Manning of Scottsbluff, NE. She is also survived by her grandchildren John Patrick Manning and Anna Margaret Manning as well as her sister Marilyn Mracek of Alliance, NE, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Manning, her son, Sean Patrick Manning and her siblings, Don Donovan, Carol Walters and Becky Stewart.
In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to the Hemingford Volunteer Firefighters Association, P.O. Box 598, Hemingford, NE 69348.
