Percy Little Bear

Percy William Little Bear, also known as โ€œMatho Cikalaโ€ in Lakota, was born on July 17, 1943 in Pine Ridge, SD to Nicholas Little Bear and Edith Garnette.  Percy started his journey peacefully on Monday, September 9, 2024 in Pine Ridge, SD at the age of 81. Percy maintained a serene and nurturing environment wherever he went, leaving a lasting impression  on all who knew him.

Percy found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Born in Pine Ridge, SD, Percy attended school at Holy Rosary. Growing up Percy enjoyed all sports. His favorite things were announcing for the โ€œLittle Bear Rodeoโ€, the casino, attending Sundances and Relay for Life. Most of all he loved being around his family.

Though Percy has begun his journey beyond, his memory will forever be cherished by his loved ones. Percy is survived by his sister, Theresa Little Bear; brother, Howard Bad Milk(Annie); children, Lori Little Bear, Percetta Little Bear, Craig Little Bear, Stephanie Little Bear; grandchildren, Abigail, Little Abby, Olicia, Elizabeth, Oyate, Ernest, Romey, William, William, Jr., & Rosie, Jeremy & Ariah, Vanessa, Lisa, Michael, Mariela, & Michael, and Derek, Tara Joe & Nicole; and all grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Percy was preceded in death by his father, Nicholas Little Bear; mother, Edith Garnette-Little Bear; sisters, Annie Bad Milk, Coletta Swalley, Evelyn Ladeaux; brothers, Benjamin Little Bear, Charles Little Bear, Robert Little Bear, Nicolas โ€œJRโ€ Little Bear, Royal Little Bear; and daughter, Edna Little Bear.

Pallbearers will be Sam Yellow Eagle, Jacob Swalley, Kenneth Wike, Donnie Bear Robe, Elijah Whirlwind Horse, Donnie Joe Whirlwind Horse, Geno Winters and Jacob Wike.

Honorary pallbearers will be Oglala Lakota Sioux Nursing Home, Rosebud Sioux Tribe, Oglala Sioux Tribe, Opie Bordeaux, Carol LaDeaux, and All Friends and Family.

Wake Services:ย  One night wake service starting at 1:00 PM CST, Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at Bishop Harold Jones Building in Mission, SD with Rosary services starting at 7 PM CST


Funeral Services:ย  10:00 AM, Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at Bishop Harold Jones Building in Mission, SD.
