Pillen Bringing Property Tax Relief Town Hall Series To Chadron, Alliance

Loading

Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen is coming to Chadron and Alliance next week as part of an ambitious schedule of town hall meetings on property taxes ahead of his push for a special session of the legislature for property tax relief.

Pillen will be at the Chadron State College Student Center on Thursday at 1:00 and in Alliance at 4:30 at the Westside Events Center.

Pillen has already held 17 town halls and will conduct another 9 in the 4-day trip that’s bringing him to Chadron and Alliance.

He says “Nebraskans across the state have made clear that they expect state leaders to solve the property tax crisis. While we are counting on the Legislature to develop the right solution, all Nebraskans must be part of this conversation.”

Pillen fought hard in this year’s legislature for a billion-dollar property tax relief package that included a sales tax increase, but it failed in the closing days.

As a result, he now says “the Legislature failed to pass any property tax relief in the regular session, but we will finish the job in a special session.”

In his weekly column on Monday, the governor sent lawmakers a “save the date” message – writing “To any state senator reading this – clear your schedule from July 26 to August 15. We have the people’s work to do.”

Pillen has said repeatedly since the session ended that he’s ready to “call as many special sessions as it takes” to get his billion dollars in property tax relief.
