Nebraska Republican gubernatorial hopeful Jim Pillen has scored a big endorsement – the Nebraska Farm Bureau, the state’s largest farm group and an influential voice among farmers.

Farm Bureau President Mark McHargue says Pillen was the “overwhelming consensus” choice for endorsement among the group’s county members throughout Nebraska.

McHargue calls Pillen is a fiscal conservative and a good listener with a background in agriculture.

Pillen grew up on a farm in Platte County and became a veterinarian and the owner of Pillen Family Farms and DNA Genetics. He was elected to the University of Nebraska Board of Regents in 2020.

.    He’s is locked in a competitive multi-candidate GOP primary with Charles Herbster, a Falls City agribusiness executive, seen as his chief rival.

Herbster is a close ally of Donald Trump and has the endorsement of the former president while.Pillen has the backing of Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts.
