Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen is requesting nearly 10 million dollars from the federal government following March’s wildfires that covered over 820,000 acres in Arthur, Grant,
Garden, Lincoln and Morrill counties. The Federal funds would be used to repair public infrastructure including roads, bridges and power systems.
Pillen’s request for a major disaster declaration was submitted to the Federal Government on Friday.
Pillen said so far damages have been reported at 9.7 million dollars according to federal officials and the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency.
Pillen said while he is grateful for the support Nebraska has received from in and out of state, but that federal assistance will support long term recovery efforts.
