A Rapid City man is facing homicide charges after police say his infant son died while in his care. Rapid City police said Tyler Slow Bear was arrested on charges of second-degree murder and improper disposal of a body in connection with the death of his son.

The 33 year old Slow Bear is being held in the Pennington County Jail after police were called to his home on Thursday (May 7th) for a welfare check after a report by someone concerned about the child’s safety. During the investigation police learned that the boy had not been seen since the 19th of April.

Police said the child was not at the home when they arrived with Slow Bear Telling them the infant was with a family member which investigators found out was not true. Slow Bear later admitted to assaulting the infant and investigators believe the child died from the injuries of the assault.

Slow Bear allegedly hid the remains of the child in an undeveloped outdoor location in Rapid City. Rapid City Police said they recovered the remains at the location Slow Bear identified.
