Rapid City Police Fatal Wound Armed Burglary Suspect

Loading

Rapid City police shot and killed a robbery suspect Saturday afternoon. The two officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave as per department policy. No names have been released.

A joint release from the Rapid City Police Department and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office says police had been called by a man who said he’d come home and thought someone was in his house.

Multiple officers responded and were searching the home when they encountered the suspect, who was pointing what was described as a “long gun” at them.

The two officers fired and hit the man, who died at the scene. Authorities have not said how many shots were fired or how many hit the suspect. The case is now in the hands of the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation.
