Recreational Pot Initiative Makes SD Ballot

A petition drive to legalize recreational use of marijuana in South Dakota is officially on the November ballot. It will appear as Initiated Measure 27

South Dakotans for Better Marijuana Laws, the group leading the campaign to legalize pot, needed roughly 17,000 valid signatures and Secretary of State Steve Barnett says a random sample of signatures showed they easily met the limit.

South Dakota voters in 2020 passed two pot measures, one legalizing medical marijuana and one allowing both medicinal and recreational use, but the state Supreme Court threw out the latter as violating a constitutional requirement that ballot measures deal with just one subject.
