Just before 10:00 AM Sunday morning, a small fire was reported 9 miles southwest of Custer, SD on private lands. Due to fire danger levels considered โhighโ in the central and southern Black Hills regions (according to the US Forest Service), local, state and federal resources quickly responded to the โRed Starโ Fire.
Crews worked throughout the afternoon and eventually the fire was declared to be contained by 4:55 PM Sunday afternoon. A total of 1.89 acres were reportedly burned.
The cause of the Red Star Fire is still unknown, but an investigator has been ordered to determine the cause.
