Today is National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, recalling December 7, 1941, when the Japanese attack on American military bases in Hawaii brought the United States into World War II.
All flags are to be flown at half-staff until midnight tonight. Citizens are also encouraged to observe appropriate ceremonies and activities in appreciation of the sacrifices of all those who served in World War II.
Governor Jim Pillen has issued a proclamation for the day that says “On this day, 82 years ago, we recall the sacrifice and bravery of 2,403 American heroes who gave their lives in service to our nation.”
Pillen adds that “We are all forever grateful to the greatest generation, which conquered evil and triumphantly fought for the world during World War II.”
