Repairs Forcing Whitney, Dawes County Rural Water District Shutdown; No Water Maybe Until Friday

Loading

The Village of Whitney and customers of the Dawes County Rural Water District may be without water for the next two days, starting this afternoon.

District officials say a major leak in one of the pipelines will require shutting down the whole system – both Whitney and all rural customers – so repairs can be made.

They hope to have water restored as quickly as possible, but say the full extent of what’s needed for repairs won’t be known until the work begins and that it might be Friday before the water flows again.

Because of that, they’re urging customers to fill containers before the shutoff occurs, likely in the mid-afternoon today, to use for drinking, cooking, or to flush toilets.

They also say that because of the repairs, the district will be under a boil water order from the time service resumes until testing confirms that it is safe.
