Richard Wayne Loafer was born on Sept 25, 1972 in Pine Ridge, SD to Francis “Bill” and Viola (Clifford) Loafer.  Richard made his journey to the Spirit World on April 14, 2024 at the Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City, SD.

Richard grew up in Kyle on the Pine Ridge Reservation. He attended elementary school in Kyle and Rockyford school until his tenth-grade year. He then attended St Martins in Rapid City, but dropped out and received his G.E.D. from Oglala Lakota College in Kyle.

Richard married Denise Wounded and had 4 children, then married Cheryl Little Bull and had two girls, who are now 10 and 12 years old.  He raised them by himself, so you might say they are daddy’s girls.

Richard was a devoted dad and a hard worker until he started getting sick 2-and-a-half years ago.  He worked in construction all his life, a trait he learned from his father from the time he was 13 years old.

His dad also taught his brother Travis and sister Marsha how to work construction until his passing at the age of 52.

Richard also loved horses, he loved riding and rounding up and branding cows from a very young age.  His mother and father always had orphan calves for the children to take care of; at one time. they had 90 calves to take care of. All their cousins used to love to come over and help them feed the calves and mess around with them.

Richard also loved mud bogging; he had a little white truck that he built up for mud bogging.  He also loved working on motors and building and making leather belts.  He was a good son.

Richard is survived by his mother Viola “Sissy” Loafer; children Clay Loafer, Marie and Mariah Loafer, McKenzie Loafer, and Makaila Loafer; brother Travis Loafer; grandchildren Avery Brave Heart, Marcelus Loafer, and Jassiah Loafer; grandmother Sterline Rooks; aunts Ruby Clifford, Bonnie Standing Soldier, Hilda Diaz, Lisa Watkins, Mona Vocu, Joann Rooks, Grace Rooks, Bernie Herrera, White Dove Clifford, and Amanda Clifford; uncles Ruben Clifford Jr, William “Bill” (Jonnie) Clifford, Ed Clifford, Henry Clifford, Ruben Clifford III, Austin Watkins, Ben Loafer, Acey Loafer Jr, and Perry Zephier; nephew Francis Bill Loafer; nieces Kaydence Loafer and Kassiah Loafer; and numerous cousins.

Richard was preceded in death by his father Francis “Bill” Loafer; daughter Yvonne Loafer; sisters Marsha June Loafer and Tanya June Loafer; maternal grandparents Ruben Clifford Sr and Phyllis (Ruff) Clifford; paternal grandparents Yvonne Erma Loafer and Acey Loafer Sr; aunts Belva Clifford, Wilma Watkins, Marie Loafer, Marilyn Faye Zephier, and Joyce Loafer; and uncle Laddy Clifford,
