Abortion-rights opponents are inching closer to a filibuster-proof super-majority in the Nebraska Legislature with the appointment yesterday by Gov Pete Ricketts of Kathleen Kauth to the seat of Rich Pahls of Omaha, who died in late April.
A bill to outlaw abortion in Nebraska if the U-S Supreme Court overturns its landmark Roe v Wade decision came up 2 votes shy of ending a filibuster and Pahls, an abortion opponent, missed the vote because of his illness.
Kauth, owner of a mediation company, said at the news conference announcing her appointment that she would “consider it an honor” to vote for a bill similar to the proposed abortion ban
