Memorial services for 73-year old Bob Brown are Friday, March 22 at 2:00 at the United Methodist Church in Alliance, NE, with Pastor Greg Reed officiating. 

Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery.   

Visitation with the family is Thurs, March 21. from 4-6 pm  at Bates-Gould Funeral Home in Alliance. 

Memorials may be given to the Custer County Foundation in Broken Bow, NE.

Robert William (Bob) Brown was born on April 7, 1950 to Neil and Arlene (O’Connell) Brown in Alliance. He was called to his heavenly home on March 15, 2024 at the Rose Blumkin Jewish Home in Omaha surrounded by the love of his family. 

Bob graduated from Alliance High School in 1968 and received his Bachelor of Science in Education Degree from Chadron State College in 1972, his Master of Science in Education Degree from CSC in 1976, and his Specialist in Educational Administration and Supervision Degree from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln in 1983.

Bob married Cheri Reed on Dec 27, 1971 in Alliance. Five children and five grandchildren were born to this union. They are his greatest pride and joy.

Bob was an educator. He taught social studies and was a guidance counselor before becoming a principal and then a superintendent of schools. He spent his career in Nebraska, starting with Albion and Genoa before moving to Broken Bow as high school principal in 1984 and later becoming a superintendent of schools in Ansley, Sargent and Arnold. He retired in 2010 and he and Cheri moved to Omaha.

Bob enjoyed sports of all kinds. Golf, hunting, fishing, reading and traveling were some of his passions, but time spent with family and friends was his greatest pleasure. 

He was proud to cheer for his children and grandchildren in all their endeavors. He enjoyed taking the family to Miami for the 1995 Orange Bowl, going to the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, Georgia, being in Dublin on St Patrick’s Day and in Munich for Oktoberfest, and attending the 50th Super Bowl to cheer the Denver Broncos to the Championship.

Bob was a member of St Andrews United Methodist Church and the Nebraska Council of School Administrators. He was a board member for the Nebraska One Box Pheasant Hunt and also served on the Foundation Board of Directors for the hunt.

Bob will always be remembered for his generous and loving spirit.

Bob is survived by his wife of 52 years Cheri; daughters Kerri Mason of Denver, CO, and Kristi (Kevin) Ahlers of Yutan, NE; son Mark (Amy) of Columbus, NE; grandchildren Jack, Maddie and Rhys Mason, Bryce and Ryker Brown; brother Dick (Gwen) Brown Grand Island, NE; sisters-in-law Karen Brown of Alliance and Kim Dankers, Pleasant Dale, NE; brother-in-law Scott (Sonja) Reed of Columbus, OH; and many nieces and nephews and dear friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Neil and Arlene (O’Connell) Brown; parents-in-law Keith and Margie Reed; infant children Elizabeth and David; his brother Don; and brother-in-law Harlan Dankers.Bates-Gould Funeral Home in Alliance is in charge of arrangements for Bob Brown.
