Robert G “Bob” DeGunia was born on August 8, 1941 in Crawford to John and Gladys (Stetson) DeGunia, and passed away on March 21, 2023 at his home in Crawford.
Bob attended Crawford Elementary School, but went to high school at the Assumption Academy in Chadron. During the Blizzard of 1949, they had to crawl out of the 2nd story window to get outside, and they walked through many tunnels of snow to get around town
Upon graduation, he went to work for the Beef Research Center at Fort Robinson, just southwest of Crawford. When the Center moved to Clay Center, NE, Bob moved with it and convinced his brother Larry to come to Clay Center, too, getting him a job in the supply department
The brothers lived together in Clay Center and had lots of fun together. This is also where Bob met Cynthia and her daughter Nichole.
Bob worked at the Beef Research Center for 35 years, then retired and moved back to Crawford, where he spent the rest of his life surrounded by many friends, family, and neighbors.
Bob loved to go hunting and fishing with his brother Earnest and visiting with his many friends from around the Crawford area. He also loved working in his yard during the summer, watering the grass and flowers, watching the birds, squirrels, and other animals.
Bob loved the dogs that were near his house as he would give them all treats and knew each of their names.
Another thing he loved was his sports, whether it be basketball or football. He was a season ticketholder for both Nebraska and Chadron State College football, and his favorite pastime was watching the Cornhuskers on tv and watching the Kansas City Chiefs play and win the Superbowl.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents John and Gladys DeGunia; brother Earnest DeGunia Sr; sister Peggy Tyler; and nephews William DeGunia and Weldon Tyler.
He is survived by his daughter Nikki; brother Larry DeGunia, nephews Ernest DeGunia Jr, Darrold DeGunia and Troy DeGunia; nieces Shelly Bohne, Rhonda Tyler, and Christie Good; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Chamberlain Chapel of Crawford is in charge of arrangements for Bob DeGunia.
